Orlando, Florida — A man who opened fire at the Pulse nightclub on June 12 has been identified by security camera footage.
The Orlando Sentinel reported Friday that the man was seen on a security camera at the nightclub before he started shooting, at which point he fled the scene.
The man, identified as Omar Mateen, was killed by police a short time later.
Authorities did not immediately provide any further details about how the surveillance video was obtained.
Mateen was shot dead by police as he fired into the crowd.
He had multiple firearms on him at the time of the shooting.
Mateens parents said they had spoken with investigators after the shooting, and the man’s father said he had been in contact with police about the possibility that his son was trying to kill people.
But a source told ABC News Friday that investigators were “not going to say anything” until they knew whether Mateen had acted alone or if someone else was behind the attack.ABC News’ John Salter contributed to this report.
